May. 25th, 2007 01:17 amMilliways was interesting enough, but unfortunately, it was back to business as usual.
"Twenty-eight."
Nicholas and Danny sat in the patrol car by the roadside monitoring traffic speed with the radar. It was as slow a day as any as drivers here usually tended to behave themselves.
Danny leaned his temple against the window out of boredom. "Twenty-seven," he murmured as another car drove by. He sighed, glancing at Nicholas every so now and then. He was scribbling something in his notebook. As always. Danny let out another long sigh.
"Say it."
"No," Nicholas replied tersely, not looking up from his notebook.
"Aw, c'mon," Danny pleaded, facing him in earnest with puppy-dog eyes.
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"I already said why not, it's silly."
"'Tain't silly."
"It is too silly."
"But I just wanna hear you say it."
"Why?"
"I dunno, I just do!"
"No."
"Just once!"
"Christ, Danny, no."
"You know I'm only gonna start askin' you again in another ten minutes."
"I'm quite prepared for that eventuality."
"Niiiiiiiiick."
"No!"
"Pleeeeeeease?"
Thoroughly exasperated and starting to crack, Nicholas finally looked up from his notebook. "Did you catch that last car?"
"Twenty-six. Please, Nick?"
"Danny..."
"C'mon, please? For me?"
For him.
Nicholas huffed a defeated sigh. He sat back straight against the seat and swallowed, clearing his throat, and he let a very calm yet imposing expression settle on his face. When he spoke, he used a voice normally reserved for that tiny percentage of incredibly suave international super-spies.
"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Angel. ...Nicholas Angel."
Danny burst out laughing and clapped his hands. "Yee-ah, boyeee!" he cheered. "Thirty-nine!"
"Punch it!"
Danny threw the car in gear and crunched the gas pedal, sirens wailing as they swerved out onto the road in hot pursuit.
